Laponite

Laponite is a synthetic Bentonite. Its particle sizes are much smaller than natural bentonites, which translates to thicker flow. Just 2% can gel water!

Pottery suppliers do not supply Laponite, but it can be found at archiving material suppliers.

There are several different grades of Laponite which have differing properties.

Rheology

Do not use Soda Ash, Sodium Silicate, Magnesium Sulfate, etc. to adjust slurries with Laponite. Laponite responds to pH (and is basic when mixed in water). Add acid to thicken.
